What do you think gets in the way of people contacting you for support (what are their fears and concerns)?
Fear of the consequences of reaching out for help during times of domestic violence. Some women are not sure about how to reach out for help. Shame of reaching out for help.
What surprises people when they do start working with you?
The amount services we provide. That we have a 24-hour crisis line. That all our services are provided by such a small team.
What results have you seen in your work with whānau?
Clients being able to remove themselves from violent relationships and creating a better life for themselves and their children. Clients being able to prepare safety plans for themselves and whanau. Clients accessing our counselling services to address any presenting issues as some clients have never accessed this resource.
Is there a referral process or can people self-refer to your service?
Clients are able to self-refer through our helpline. Clients can be referred through other agencies.
The best way for clients to make initial contact with us is by calling our helpline 0800 number. This will allow our clients to reach out for help and to be triaged to ensure the correct services are provided to them and their whanau.
