How does your service support whānau?
The purpose of the Foodbank is to supply emergency food and household items to vulnerable individuals and families within the Far North Region. A key role in bringing help and hope to people in need.
We have been serving the Community of the Far North for 23 years including through Lockdowns and the Pandemic, weather events and now, the cost-of-living crisis. No one should be stressing about a lack of food at a time like this. We are here for you no matter who you are.
What results have you seen in your work with whānau?
In our year July 2022-June 2023 we provided 1,141 parcels to those in need of food assistance feeding 1,653 adults and 1,733 children (total 3,386 fed) and each parcel contained enough food for that household for 5-7 days with breakfast, lunch, dinner , snacks and we add anything else we can lay our hands on e.g. dishwash liquid, shampoo, soap, toilet paper, nappies, baby formula, feminine products, toothpaste, laundry powder, even pet food, etc.
Is there a refferral process or can people self-refer to your service?
Our Community Foodbank is part of a network that brings support to the social services of the Far North Community. If you are in need of assistance please contact one of the agencies we work with for a referral - https://www.northlandwellbeing.org.nz/directory-listings/farnorth-foodbank
