We are a Kaupapa Māori provider of wraparound support services for whānau in Taitokerau. You can find us at our hubs across Whangārei and in Kaikohe - so come in for a cuppa and explore your future options. We invite you to join our private Facebook community group to receive updates from the team, ask questions and connect.
Is there a referral process or can people self-refer to your service?
155 OPEN ARMS - Te Ruruhau ō Ngā Ringa Ringa Tuwhera - Our day centre is in the heart of Whangārei, providing anyone with space to rest, have a kai, and seek housing and wellbeing support.
AWHI WHĀNAU - We have a team of Kaiarahi available to support you and your whānau with your housing and wellbeing goals. We can provide support for whānau who have children under 17 years on a variety of matters including
• Improving health and wellbeing of children and adults
•Housing •Oranga Tamariki advocacy
•Budgeting and overcoming financial challenges
• Parenting and managing behaviour
• Food parcels and grants
• WINZ advocacy • Funeral grants • And much more.
Whare Kai - Anyone is welcome, whether you self-refer, are supported by 155 Whare Āwhina or other social service agencies. To book your shop phone 09 437 0185 - extension 3 and leave us a voicemail with your name and phone number for kaimahi to call you back or email foodbank@155.org.nz at any time with your name and phone number. We ask that you have tried to access assistance from Work and Income prior to dropping in. If you have received a letter from Work and Income declining assistance within the past six months, please bring this with you. How does it work? During your phone call our 155 Whare Kai Kaimahi will have a korero with you. Following this, our Kaimahi will book your shopping time at 155 Whare Kai. This will be either on the same day or before the end of the week. Whānau can shop once every 8 weeks, and we ask for a $10 contribution but kei te pai if you do not have it.
Community Law Taitokerau - Free and confidential legal services and advice across Taitokerau Northland. We are a team of lawyers, legal executives and community workers. We listen carefully, we’re whānau friendly, and we help you find solutions you feel comfortable with. We’re passionate about making sure that everyone, no matter how little money you have, has access to justice and enjoys real equality. Our team offers all sorts of free legal help, including information and advice, legal education workshops, and JP services.
We also deliver regular outreach clinics across Taitokerau, in Kaitaia, Moerewa, Dargaville, Kaiwaka, and Wellsford. We can provide expert help on: •Dispute resolution • Family law •Employment law •Tenancy law •Criminal law •Refugee and immigration law •Human rights •Consumer issues •Completion of forms •Witnessing documents.
