How does your service support whānau?
Kind Hands is a purpose-built cottage at 19 Morningside Road Whangārei, offering Early Childhood Education and Respite Care for children who are aged under 6 years, have a disability and/or are medically fragile and/or are technology dependent. Although the facility is located in Whangārei, it is intended to benefit all children in the above categories throughout Northland. Kind Hands is a home away from home with trained staff who can take care of all of your children’s individual needs. Kind Hands has trained nurses and caregivers 24hrs every second Friday from 5pm to Monday 8.30am for Respite Care and ECE qualified teachers and Nurses and Caregivers Monday to Friday 8.30 to 5pm for ECE hours. This respite service is also available for families and caregivers who need support or a break from caring for a child with a disability or medical condition. Kind Hands is staffed by a team of registered nurses and trained carers on a 24 hour basis over the weekend. Respite care is temporary care of a sick or disabled person, providing relief for their usual Carer. The Kind Hands Respite Care Cottage is designed to accommodate any child with additional needs, while at the same time providing a homelike environment. Kind Hands is a home away from home. The cottage has been designed to make it a child friendly home where families can leave their child to be cared for by experienced and qualified staff.
Is there a referral process or can people self-refer to your service?
Only people in the following categories can be referred to Kind Hands – Children and young people who have medical conditions/medically fragile, are technology dependent, are under ACC and/or with disabilities.
