How does your service support whānau?
Family Works in Whangārei provides counselling, social work services and a range of group programmes for children, young people, parents/caregivers and families including: THE INCREDIBLE YEARS PROGRAMME for parents with children aged 3 to 8. It will help you learn ways to: • build a healthy relationship with your child • understand your child’s development • encourage positive behaviour • address challenging behaviour. PARENTING IN PRISON - We help parents in prison improve their parenting skills and communicate better with their children. The seven-week Parenting in Prison programme is run in prisons by our family workers.
The programme helps parents: • answer children’s questions • understand the likely effects of separation • reintegrate after release (with a follow up in person and another over the phone).
What surprises people when they do start working with you?
Most of our services are free. Some parenting programmes may ask for a small contribution or koha. Our Family Works Resolution Service is free if you qualify for funding from the Ministry of Justice.
